About John
Hi, I’m John O’Connor, president at JSO Digital.
I’m a non-practicing attorney, entrepreneur, and writer with more than ten years of experience working in media and tech.
Past Work
In a former life, I worked as an associate at Alston & Bird in their Global Finance Practice Group before starting my own plaintiff’s practice at my law firm, The O’Connor Law Firm. I was honored to represent hundreds of property owners in litigation that became the largest mortgage fraud lawsuit in North Carolina state history.
After the mortgage fraud lawsuit wound down, I moved on from law and have pursued entrepreneurial projects since.
I appeared on Shark Tank season 7 to pitch ‘brellaBox, an umbrella rental system designed for New York City that was, unfortunately, a bit ahead of its time.
Current Focus
Gene Food, a nutrigenomics platform we continue to operate, was born during my time as a stressed-out entrepreneur working in NYC. Having gotten on the wrong side of my health and utterly confused by all the conflicting views on nutrition, I wanted to create a product that could point people looking in earnest for sound dietary advice in the right direction. Gene Food, with its 20 proprietary diet types based on a polygenic risk score our team designed, is that product.
LeafScore began as a directory of non-toxic products on the Gene Food site, but quickly grew into its own dedicated site and community. Like many people today, climate change and environmental degradation are concerns of mine. We built LeafScore as a resource for consumers who put climate and worker safety first when making purchasing decisions.
Why I Work
My most important role in life is as a Dad. I was raised with a “family first” approach, and my family is a large part of what gives meaning to my work. I work hard every day with my family as my inspiration.
No B.S.
I enjoy the process of growing businesses and pride myself on a straightforward, no-B.S. approach.
